Functional but with very poor heat dissipation - too risky for valuable data/expensive SATA drive

This drive enclosure worked (eSATA and USB 3.0) but got very hot very quickly. It needs either a fan or fins so it can cool the SATA drive it contains, but doesn't have either. I quickly decided that I couldn't risk leaving an important 6TB drive in this case - it's too hot, resulting in a high risk of data loss. I've had many other OWC (Other World Computing/MacSales.com) devices and liked them, but they weren't up to date. Maybe that's enough for a small drive (500GB or 1TB), but the bigger and more expensive drives become, the more expensive the risk of overheating becomes with this setup. Cooling fins like the LaCie D2 would make sense (see picture).

Pros
  • There's something inside
Cons
  • Minor issues
