I use these for cycling. They are very comfortable. I sized mine to not be overly compressive, but to fit snugly without wrinkles (have to be aerodynamic!). Even if you order them undersized, I don't think you will get a lot of compression, they can provide a moderate amount. In cool weather (as low as the high 40s F for me), these are enough to keep me warm. In hot weather, they protect me from the sun and do a good job of wicking sweat such that it cools me off. They do not completely block the sun; I have accumulated a very light tan after dozens of rides. These are sheer enough that I also wear a similar pair of shorts over the top of them. These seem to be well made and durable.
