I've always been a fan of those old style wooden pepper mills. I spent money on the hourglass shaped glasseset which seems to be so popular these days and both stopped working after about a month of not very heavy use. But back to these. Got them today and just filled up the pepper grinder as I'm on a salt free diet (YECH!). I keep the Salt Mill as a backup. It took me a minute or two to be able to switch the grinder from a very fine grinder to a larger, restaurant-style pepper flake grinder, which I prefer for salads, pasta, and other "on the table" dishes with little fiddling. The fine grind is ideal for grinding peppers into a powder for maximum flavor that can be added during cooking. The little wooden spoon is cute as everyone goes, but basically useless. I found it quicker to wrap my hand around the top of the grinder and just pour in the pepperberries for the filling. It literally took 2 seconds while using the spoon was a lesson in patience as it holds so little and you end up chasing whole berries all over the table. Maybe I'll make a pendant or a keychain out of it. I will wait until I have them to see how they hold up before upgrading my rating to 5 stars.
