They are comfortable though

I have bought several pairs of these over the years. I mainly use mine for white noise when traveling (they can also be used as eyeshadows to block out annoying sunlight if you're somewhere without blackout curtains). The sound quality is so-so. they are somewhat muted, which is not surprising. But you won't use them for critical listening. However, they are comfortable and seem to be worth a lot with good care. Notice I said "if they are well cared for". If left uncared for, they definitely have a finite lifespan, and the failure mode I've observed seems like a solvable problem that I hope they will solve. My wife wears it every night. She also has a habit of going to bed with wet or at least damp hair. I don't know how she handles it, but here we are. In any event, the cables of their pairs quickly stiffen to the point of becoming inflexible, eventually brittle, and then breaking (although the braided sheath usually remains intact). Not sure if it's the water, latent shampoo/conditioner, or skin oils, but for her at least, this deterioration seems to be well underway for a few weeks after getting a new pair. I've never had this problem, but I have short hair (and less every year) that I can dry well and I don't wear it that often. In any case, I suspect this problem is solvable (like maybe Teflon insulation?), albeit perhaps not solvable at a reasonable cost. I wish I didn't have to throw them out and buy new ones regularly.
