You may be able to get it to work

I was hoping this would be a good alternative to a smooth resin over the collage and fill. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it completely smooth, especially around the edges (and some were up to 8x8). If I elevate it higher, brace the canvas mids, and be willing to use (and spend) twice as much, it might work. The angle is important, but make sure the bottom is the edge that isn't visible and lift it up. It was a nice finish where it was smooth so it should work fine for some items or if you can figure out how to do it right.
