I had old furniture that needed refurbishing. After reading the positive and negative reviews, I decided to take a risk and try three different strains. 80, 120 and 220 were chosen for the small finish of the 120 year old walnut. God what a mistake that was. I tried the yellow after watching a few videos and going at the speed listed in the manual that came with it, 4000rpm for wood. A gummy bear on the end of the drill would hold better and have a more abrasive effect. First, there was no placeholder in the material. After careful examination at 10x magnification, I concluded that all three varieties are nothing but the same quality, different color, gummy material. All three qualities represent the same type of material in my opinion, just in a different colour. There is no difference in the quality of the abrasive. Really no different quality of sanding than you would get with any piece of soft general purpose plastic. Second is the durability of devices. Literally after 60 seconds, the pieces scattered at warp speed. Even if it just spun freely and didn't touch anything, it just flew apart and dissolved. When applied to a tree, it literally crumbled into fragments. That was at 4000 rpm. According to the enclosed instructions, these things are designed for speeds of up to 25,000 rpm. What a whimsical world this technical writer came from to develop this ultimate design specification. If I didn't wear a protective mask, I could go blind now. In one of the photos you can see some details on the desktop interface. Third and lastly, it actually melted and soaked the rubber into the wood. Please look at the photos. He not only managed to remove a conspicuous surface stain, but also made the job much more difficult. I had to go back and manually sand off the haze of melted rubber that was stuck to the wood. The little lumps were easy to scrape off, but they actually stained the wood so rubbery it took hours to remove. After using some yellow 80 grit and getting this horrible result, I didn't use the finer grit for fear it would further damage the wood. Please note these and other negative reviews. You will see many performance complaints. I'm not saying the foreign origin of the product is the reason, I'm saying straight out that this is a terrible product. It does not meet the specified requirements and is actually quite dangerous to use. I don't know if 3M products actually work better, but I'm determined to find out. They may be just as bad or actually work as advertised. Thank you Revain for providing a simple and hassle free returns process that went smoothly. Perhaps there should be some sort of system to review the quality and performance claims of many products that have received some level of negative feedback. You are taking a risk with all the reviews loaded that make a product look better than it actually is.
