I suspected this water bottle might encourage mold growth if not cleaned properly based on other reviews I read but I decided to give it a try, so how confident i am was in my ability to keep it clean. My first complaint was that it started leaking within weeks of ownership. I've always hand washed and made sure the spout is down when stored in a diaper bag, but water leaked from the area around the button. Definitely not remained airtight with careful use. The second complaint, as mentioned, was mold growth. The spout in the lid area cannot be removed for cleaning and black mold has formed in the area of the spout in the lid. This could be seen by pulling the spout up or down. If the bottle had been truly airtight this might never have resulted in mold, but since water was constantly seeping into the bottle cap, water would collect. I didn't take pictures but there are other reviewers who took pictures of the exact mold issue I was having. Unfortunately the bottle had to be thrown away. I was too scared of my daughter being exposed to mold and tired of the constant leakage. I ended up buying another brand to try. This bottle lasted us 4 months.
