This is not an upgrade, not a seller, this is purely an upgrade, not the product itself. I've had a My Book Thunderbolt Duo 8TB from a year to a year and a half. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a hard drive or hard drive company. Western Digital sent me 4 replacement units for my original purchase as the case, not the drives, continues to fail. If one drive fails so the RAID 1 setup sync doesn't work, it won't switch to the second drive like RAID 1. It just disappears from your desktop (Mac) and needs to be rebuilt. I say I should restore because he is actually trying to restore. The controller in the Thunderbolt enclosure is defective at best. God forbid you call Western Digital during the warranty and try to get help. They end up doing exactly what they did to me by permanently wiping all 4TB of data I had on the drive and then telling me they are not a data processing company but a hard drive company. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? You will have a hard time finding someone in customer service / tech support to take care of you. I told them I have a Mac about 20 times, they kept sending me PC troubleshooting links and those links weren't even for my product. They are absolutely useless as a tech support team and their product is poorly made in the case of the WD 8tb My Book Thunderbolt Duo. Their level 2 techs are worse, they even told me that My Book Thunderbolt Duo is not a RAID 1 compliant drive. I asked why it said it was on the box at the time to which I got no answer and I watched them how they erased my discs for a second time. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this product if you can stay away from something Western Digital costs over a hundred dollars. The product might work right at first but it will fail and the guarantee that comes with it is just a guarantee that they will destroy your data and make you worse than you thought possible by asking for help. Original post: Purchased a few years ago after a couple of crashes with my 4TB Seagate hard drives. I haven't been a huge fan of Western Digital products for a few years now, but I have to say they changed my mind with this drive. I bought the 8TB version with Thunderbolt connection. It was spotless from the start, as quiet as can be, and the included software for MAC works great and is regularly updated. The write speed is great and it reads fast enough not to cause any lag when streaming music or movies to my wireless devices or Apple TV. This is a great purchase and I'm glad the price is slowly coming down. I'll be buying another one in about a year.
