Review on πŸ•οΈ Napier Backroadz Truck Tent: Optimize Your Truck Bed Camping Experience by Bill Pool

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I wish it was as good as it looks. :(

Just returned from a 3 day trip with this tent for the first time. Here is my review with the photos below. GOOD: This tent looked great on my truck in my opinion really cool looking (Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, 2013 It got a lot of compliments from my fellow campers in the looks department. The last hurricane had passed so it rained cats and dogs the first day, but with rain gear it wasn't a problem, that knew "I rain comes so can't comment on how it handles rain without a shield. It felt pretty solid even in the sometimes gusty winds. I wasn't aware of this feature, but I really liked the IDEA (more on that via a few) blackout stuff inside. The lamp light doesn't come out at night and attracts insects and if you want you can get some sleep in the morning.OTHER PROS: Spacious.Oh I prefer tents that only mattress pads are. cy covers for each window. Has a center hook which was perfect for hanging my Coleman tent fan and LED light combo. THE BAD: It's just not very well done. Zippers are cheap and feel flimsy. I felt I had to be very careful or I would ruin the tent. I totally believe other reviewers who said they had problems with the zipper as I used to worry about it every time I opened it. The poles of the tent are not very flexible and put a lot of stress on the seams during assembly. The threads in the seams also came undone in several places after just a few days of use. Blackout sealing also means that with the vents fully closed (like I did in heavy rain) it doesn't breathe at all, but I think that's a compromise worth making if you really need it. The rain canopy also completely blocks any ventilation. Finally, there is no hatch for access to the rear window of the cabin like in their other tents. DANGEROUS: It is impossible to unpack the tent without damaging the blackout layer inside. It's so tightly packed in the box that it tears when you take it apart. I noticed this immediately and very carefully proceeded with the unpacking, but to no avail. I really want to love this tent as I'm loving the idea of camping in the back of a truck right now. I love the ideas and features of this tent but it's not very well made. I would pay twice as much for this better made tent. It arrived damaged (the shading material came loose upon unboxing) and I'm afraid it won't last more than a season or two (when I leave it), which makes me sad because it's a great idea, looks great, and a solid one Design - just not well done. I intend to contact the company and update this review based on the company's response. UPDATE: After the second install, more of the shading material came off leaving little black spots all over. The bag for the trunk rack has already torn (the seam is simple and super tight). Added updated photos.

Pros
  • 2 large windows ensure optimal ventilation
Cons
  • Slightly torn
