I bought these to replace my existing dual filtration system. I use regular media and charcoal. I live in the Midwest where well water is VERY sulfurous. Taste and smell are practically unaffected by the activated carbon filter. However, it does help with the R/O filter I use on the kitchen sink. I probably only use two regular filters to keep the particulate matter down and not clog the reverse osmosis filter.
