Installed this guy in my car today. That didn't go so well at first. My car has vertical air vents and an asymmetrical dashboard that curves in multiple dimensions. That means my vents aren't rectangular either. First I tried installing the base in the lower right corner of the vent. The problem was that the vent louvers could still move left and right about 1/2 inch. Place the back of the mount flush with the dashboard. In short, try a few different attachment points. Some may work better than others From the attachment everything else worked on the first try. The magnetic base is very strong. I have a thin case on my phone and I just put a steel plate inside the case. The magnet is very strong and holds the phone almost vertically with no problems and the phone is not that light. This is a Galaxy S8+. .
