Review on Conferencing PoE Texas Compatible Generation by Chris Shepherd

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice console that fits well. However, there is something special about installing a PoE device.

At this price point, I would expect the fit and finish of this product to fit the iPad well and protect its ports while also being heavy enough to carry people from choosing to keep it on. He does all that. At this price, I also expect the PoE option to perform better than before. High quality module and from a supplier whose PoE converters I trust and use with good experience (in business production environments). The block works perfectly. The problem occurs when you try to mount this PoE box and connect it to the iPad in a reasonable way. There are no instructions for this: the link to the installation video is broken, as is the QR code, which presumably calls up the same link. The available text instructions are very general and do not cover the PoE device at all. The console has a pair of Velcro straps that you can use to mount a PoE device that has an Ethernet input on one end and a Lightning output on the other. This arrangement means it's not possible to install it where the manufacturer seems to have intended (i.e. where the straps come pre-installed), with the block at the bottom of the iPad opening, just below the iPad; Straps cannot hold the device in a position where none of the wires are taut or severely bent. It was rotated 90 degrees when installed due to the input or output cables being pushed against the underside of the console, causing the cable to be pulled and severely bent. You'll have to settle for about 30 degrees from this position, where the inlet and outlet aren't clamped with steel and the straps can still hold the PoE device semi-securely. It's not great. The PoE box has tabs that you can screw to something, but I don't see that making sense for this application. In addition to this mounting and wiring issue, at first it seemed like a 90 degree lighting cable would really help. Place it in the connector to make the iPad lighter, and if so, secure it tightly (to minimize the amount of cable protruding straight out of the connector towards the console frame). However, in the iPad mounting area, two steel plugs are knocked out of the console underneath the iPad; I believe these flaps are designed to support the edges of the iPad from below. However, they block the iPad's Lightning port very neatly no matter how you mount it. Without the PoE module and its 90 degree cable, this would be an even bigger problem. In the end, the only thing I was able to do was bend one of those flaps almost flat (back to where it was knocked out). There may be better workarounds or methods of attachment, but we'll never know as Heckler doesn't seem to have any solid documentation on actually using these devices. at least not the documentation, which is generally easy to find. In the end it looks and works like a really good thing, but I don't have to work that hard to make a high quality, expensive device like this that just does its basic stuff.
