It is definitely preferable to mount your phone charger in a cup holder than on the dashboard, windshield or air vent. It feels a lot less cluttered and it's nice to be able to just slip the phone into the holder and it automatically locks around the phone. I have a Pixel 3xl and unfortunately this device doesn't charge my phone fast (Google's own problem). I can only get a positive charge when my phone's screen is off and I'm not running any apps. When the phone's GPS screen is on, I slowly lose power. If I really need to charge my phone, I have to charge it with a cable. Just note that once you remove the charging cable from the mount and plug it into your phone, the motorized clips will stop working.
