Type 4a/4b black woman looking for a cheaper alternative to Curly Custard Custard - it works.

The name says it all. My favorite product is Curly Hair Custard. I want a gel that gives curls a lot of control and definition without smelling bad, feeling sticky or crunchy afterwards. And peeling is a deal breaker. Like most black women, I've tried a lot of products and have been disappointed because most of them aren't really designed for black women. I love Curly Custard but it's very expensive and during the pandemic when I'm working from home and people can only see me on zoom I thought now would be a good time to experiment and find a cheaper alternative too Find. I tried this Jelly and Garnier Fructis Sculpting Cream Gel. The cream gel didn't feel at all on my hair so it wasn't there. THIS jelly, on the other hand, has almost the same effect on me as curly curls. The hold is not so good and the scent is much stronger the first time you apply it. But the smell goes away after drying. There is no sticky, crunchy or flaky feeling with this jelly. Mind you, if you have thick Afro hair, just toss the guide. I apply an appropriate amount of the product to wet, wet hair because "a small amount on wet hair" does absolutely nothing to create specific curls with my hair. But it works and I think I have my second hair wash and styling gel.
