Absolutely won't support anything that weighs 5 pounds unless you stiffen the springs.
This item fits easily on an 18" square floor tile that I was planning to hang on the wall. However, the springs cannot support the weight of this item which is less than 5 pounds...so be careful when hanging anything ceramic...the springs will stretch and your item will fall or break. I made the hanger work by wrapping wire around the springs a few times to keep them from stretching. Aside from the weight issue, the hanger doesn't lay flat against the wall and in fact the metal scratched my wall a bit. I tried using adhesive pads on the back of the item to protect the wall from stains but even the thickest ones I had didn't work as the hanger wasn't flat enough.
