As you can see in the photo I use these mats to sleep on my shiki futons and also to sit with my zabutons during the day. Rugs are about half an inch thinner than traditional floor coverings, but that in no way detracts from the comfort of these babies. Also, I should note that they are a lot thicker than most mats on Amazon and there in general. The smell and feel of the herb is amazing (personal taste). Now I have to point out that the smell of the herb was stronger in the beginning and now you can only smell good if you put your nose right into the mat. These mats have a foam interior, so they're very light and spring a little when you step on them. They fold for easy portability and can be adjusted as needed. There is a handle on the bottom that hugs the floor and prevents slipping and moisture. For the price, it's literally the best option if you want something that's comfortable, easy to store and carry, and with enough protection to make it perfect for use with a double-sized shikifuton and kakebuton.
