I used one of those all in one cases that has a sliding cover where part of the body touches the board. It's named after the noble gas and "The One" from the Matrix movies. I had horrible temperatures with this case and I don't think the USB controller ever properly interacted with the metal of the case. So I decided to use a more proven method: good old copper. After a quick clean with isopropyl alcohol to remove adhesive residue from old pads (don't use acetone - it's too harsh for most electronics applications. Acetone is used to dissolve things like conformal coatings, solder mask, and screen prints that you really want to leave intact have no good reason to remove them and should always be replaced immediately upon removal), these new heatsinks are straight to the point. You could probably still pull them out with little effort, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you ever need to remove them, so I'd suggest pairing them with a well-ventilated case as well (a couple of plexiglasses on some racks would be enough) . To be honest I don't know what to do with the one flat copper chip they give you. There really isn't a suitable place on the back of the board to mount them, and since most of the components on the back look like they're either just capacitors or resistors (with a bunch of little semiconductors that look like normal transistors, or IC). ), I don't think it's even necessary. And I don't even see a suitable place to install it "just like that". Pretty sure it's a holdover from Pi 3 days. I'll leave it as a spare for now, I might find an excuse to slide my Pi 4 under a thermal imager at work to check for hotspots, but I'm pretty sure you're only looking at heatsinks on the CPU, memory, and USB controller.
