Review on Lisle 36050 Valve Keeper Tool Kit: Efficient Remover and Installer for Enhanced Performance by Carlos Long

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The right tool for the job

I used to be afraid to disassemble the valve train on engines because all the valve spring compression tools I've seen up to this point have been cumbersome and I've heard stories that it wasn't easy. When my wife's car needed new valve stem seals I decided to fix the problem myself and research led me to this tool. I rarely give 5 star reviews, but like the valve stem seal tool kit I reviewed earlier today, this was the right tool for the job. This tool easily pulled the retainers and brackets out of each valve, allowing me access to the valve stem seals. When disassembling, a strong magnet inside prevents the holders from flying into any hidden corner of the garage and also holds the pen holder. During assembly, the tool simply works in one easy motion to compress the spring and seat the brackets. Sometimes one of the goalkeepers sat and the other partially. No big deal, just line the tool up over the end of the valve stem and squeeze again and now the ratchet that wasn't inserted is in place. Inside the box was a small black steel ring along with the two pieces pictured - I didn't know what it was for and the instructions on the box didn't mention it. In the end I didn't use it or need it, but I'll keep it along with the tool for future use. Never be afraid to disassemble a valve train again! I used this tool on a 1997 Honda Accord/F22B2 engine with the cylinder head off and on a work bench.
