Sticky residue left, won't remove from air conditioner

I used this tape to seal 1920's windows in a rental apartment. They definitely leave a sticky residue on the windows and the tape won't come off my air conditioner. I have to take a hair dryer to remove the air conditioner and tape to remove it. I moved into an apartment with window blocks already installed on the windows, so in addition to trying to winterize the windows, I had to try to seal off the places where the cold air was getting in. This tape definitely helped, but it completely removed it. difficult.
