I bought a $30 woodburning tool from Revain because I was new to woodburning and didn't know what to buy and didn't want to invest a lot of money in anything. There was an error. The original tool I bought was shaped like a soldering iron, which meant it held my hand so far from the work surface that I couldn't be very accurate, and it got so hot I couldn't hold it. So after a lot of reading I decided I needed something more like a pen. That worked much better! It has decent (not fabulous) temperature control, allowing me to heat it to over 600 degrees. He struggles with not always being able to maintain temperature, but I can work with that. If I find it's not hot enough, I just don't continue until it's warm again. Usually just a few seconds. It doesn't feel hot like the cheaper ones, allowing me to burn for longer periods of time. I love the fact that the pens can work independently so switching between them keeps my work flowing smoothly. Overall, this is a good burner for the beginner who wants a more professional tool but doesn't want to invest hundreds of dollars right away.
