They're great for our purposes! Bought two sets to increase the baby gate from 40.5" to 44" and fit another gate to work at the base of our stairs where the top and bottom don't match on one side. They are great for installing gates in large areas but seem to lose some of the strength these gates typically have in the area they are designed for. They seem sturdier if you can hold them horizontally and if you only use the hook part and not the barrel extensions, but in a 44" doorway we had to put them upright with all four extensions. If our daughter or a strange dog knocks on the gate or leans against it, they will be fine, but I see that one day I will clumsily bump into them and knock them down. Overall I am very happy with them and I would recommend them.
