There is a misconception among some that I have shared that "extension" is exactly what most of us think an extension means. Namely, the signal and network access you have in one place extends to other parts of the domain, buildings, etc. From this you can imagine that you can move without interruption, stream from one area to another and your so-called smart device only sees one network and thus continues to receive. Not so. The extender offers you a different network that may be available with the same SID and P/W depending on your setup, but it's still a different network. So if you're using your phone over Wi-Fi and moving from one area of the network to another, your call will drop. In order for it to work smoothly, it needs to be part of a mesh network with its limitations; and it isn't. Another problem is that when a network router reboots on a Fios network, that device will likely bind to its IP address and prevent the router from receiving data from Fios. This means that the STB must be restarted in order to gain manual and/or pay-per-view access. The trick is to make sure you turn off the extender before restarting the router and only turn it back on once the router is back online. It took many months of trial and error to figure it out.
