Damaged on first use

I tried using this stencil with acrylic paints and the paint ran under the stencil and smeared the words. When I tried to clean the stencil I bent some of the letters. I had a hard time cleaning the stencil without damaging it. I like the template, but I'm hesitant to use it because of the issues mentioned. I also tried to transfer the stencil to the page with a pencil. I think I should have done that in the first place "before" I damaged the stencil.
