The new version of this OXO scale is very similar to the previous version with one major exception that made me want to add a new one to buy: the scale remembers the unit of measurement you've used in the past - if you set the scale to measure in grams (like I did), turn the scale off and then back on, the units are still shown in grams. In the previous version, it always reverted to pounds and ounces, regardless of the last unit used. For some, the old way might be a minor inconvenience, but for heavy users, the change can be a welcome relief. Another question from some reviewers: the instructions make minimal mention of removing the scale platform for cleaning. The instructions say it can be done, but not how. The platform can be removed by deftly prying up the two opposite sides of the scale and pulling the platform out of the two snaps holding it to the main body - the process might seem a little tricky at first, but it works. The platform can be returned to its place after cleaning. The new features are nice, but don't change the rules of the game: the backlit display is easier to read than the previous passive display, the tare function is now part of the on/off switch. A less desirable change for me is that to use the switch to turn off the system, you have to press and hold the power button for a few seconds instead of just clicking it. This change was due to the fact that a single click is now a tare function. The accuracy of the scale is about the same as in the previous version. When using calibrated weights, I have found that the scale can deviate per gram, sometimes depending on whether the weight was placed squarely in the center of the scale or slightly off-center. If your accuracy requirements call for measurements to the tenth of a gram, use a scale like the Smart Weigh Digital Pro pocket scale. So if you're still stuck with pounds and ounces, the older version might be for you. For us Grammers, a new purchase may be justified to some extent, but not necessarily.
