It doesn't work if I can't charge my device

This case is awesome in every way EXCEPT and it's a big deal I can't charge my device while the case is on. I only saw one mention and they are all fantastic reviews. I asked. The man said he fixed it with a hacksaw. I don't know whether to risk it or send the case back. Why did I do it like this?
