There is a wide range of colors in this set to match the different wood grains in the fillers and markers. I'm not the type to read all directions before diving into them, so I chose a marker color that I thought would match a piece of maple furniture with a deep groove in the wood, and it came out darker than I expected was satisfied with the cover. The marker said it was for maple. Hm. After that I looked at the marker myself and right on the marker it said I should choose a lighter color than intended. When I started looking around, there were many dents and scratches on my furniture. The lightest marker should be for oak furniture and it worked well on my maple furniture. (Maybe my furniture has a lighter stain than the traditional maple color.) I've used a maple marker on cherry furniture and it paints well too. We have oak furniture that has a light stain, but the colors in this set were too dark. The wood fillers were the same color and I was happy with how they filled some of the holes. If you have medium to dark furniture this worked well, if you have light oak or other light colored furniture I think the colors in this set are too dark. I've just tried the kit so haven't tested how the colors hold up and get the right shade. Overall I am happy with the set and would recommend it as it is very easy to use.
