The cord I have makes a popping noise along with sparks when I plug it in!

I bought this cable as an extra cable for my HP Pavilion 15 laptop because I'm concerned it might start a fire. or at least fry my laptop. I plugged it into my laptop and sparks flew and there was a crackling sound. I'm crazy. I left it on for a few minutes and it got REALLY HOT! I mean hot bubbles. Will not be used.
