Review on Granite Ware Covered Rectangular Roaster by David Nelson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Chip in the brazier, back. This may be due to poor packaging/handling of the product.

Mine arrived with a chip on the surface exposing bare metal. I'm just sending it back and won't buy any more. I suspect the reason so many reviews mention chips in the fryer is probably due to the product's manufacturer's poor protective packaging combined with the way they can be handled and stacked in the warehouse. Either that or the manufacturer has really bad quality control. WMT has the next size up granite utensil caddy for about $12. I can get it, but it won't roast a 22-pound turkey. A simple alternative is to prepare a 12lb plate the day before the holiday, cut it up and serve it in a sealed container with juice and serve a second one in the same pot the day of the holiday. I have a large, 25+ year old roaster the size of this one. Its fur is dark blue against black. But metal is much stronger and heavier. Unfortunately it fell into the garage and has a chip in it. I'd love to find a replacement, but they probably don't make them like they used to. The next size up granite cookware roaster at Walmart is lighter. It's an improvement over the cheap aluminum floor fryer you can buy at the store and of course lasts longer. But I can look for slightly better quality products than granite, including at general stores (BBB, Williams Sonoma, etc.) and some professional kitchen supply stores. All suggestions are welcome, including whether it makes sense to buy a recommended table roaster (to make room in the oven for other Christmas goodies).
