Background: These were V&H shortshots on a Harley Davidson Iron 883. I wound the tubes without heat shields. Reasons I did it: Mainly for the looks. I thought it looked damn cool. It should regulate the heating to increase the power slightly. who knows if that's the case. I wanted to run these pipes without heat shields as the tapes would click and rattle. Installation: Not easy with a pair of hands. Find a friend or spouse! This job is pretty damn hard in itself, and it doesn't look like it can be done well enough. Results: I like the look and the heat now seems evenly distributed across the pipe. Maybe it improves performance? Who knows? I would advise you to use steel clamps from old heat shields instead of steel ties. Time will tell how durable they will be. Lots of compliments from non-cyclists too!
