Great value, almost perfect for a small home office

I've been watching this for a few months while waiting to get paid for a big project. Then I wanted to jump on it. I needed a backup printer, a backup for my Brother HL5370DW that had gone through multiple toner cartridges (compatible, unofficial Brother<G> versions) and I felt like it might fail in the middle of a project if I did it I couldn't afford. replace or repair. I've seen this on two previous Brother lasers that lasted a couple of years before dying. (Sigh. My old Laserjet II from the 80's lived until it got so slow it was annoying. I guess expectations are changing <G>) that I really like them. top class car. I kept waiting for the check, knowing it would come. Then while I was waiting to pay the check, Revain listed this DCP7065DN for $109.95. Zap. After consulting the bank, I bought the thing before the price was changed again. First observations: 1) a two-sided original does not become a two-sided copy. This fact is obscured by all references to "duplex" printing in the description. If you need it, you have to go to the front of the line. 2) With Acrobat Reader under W8, double-sided printing does not work well either. I suspect this is an Adobe issue (the king of the world doesn't value independence among his vassals). Haven't messed with the included PDF reader software. I haven't played around with Acro Reader or Acro 8 on W7 to see if it can print double sided. 3) Duplex printing is performed by applications other than Acro Reader. 4) It installs easily without messing around with quad numbers and such. And it works like a good network printer over LAN. As a copier, it's great if you only need a copy or two every now and then. If you frequently copy 35-page double-sided documents, go for the high-end version. Because the printer seems to perform just as well as other Brother printers I've had. Except for a mysterious issue with Adobe not using the correct printer interface.

Pros
  • Automatic duplex printing for double sided output
Cons
  • Available in black only
