Good little printer - avoid software

This is my second dye under printer and is better in size, noise and speed. Image quality is similar, so still very good. I opened the box and set everything up quickly, the paper tray and ink only go one way so it's easy to use. The problems started when I installed the software. The install was fine, but when I tried to use it I just couldn't find how to get it to print. I'm a geek, I build my own machines and play with a lot of software so I can usually figure it out, but in this case I had to use the latest manual reader. Even then I could only do a basic print, the other print setup features were too confusing to even try. The next day I wanted to use the printer again and couldn't remember the name of the program in the start menu, so I had to go back to the installation CD and run the installation again to find out what it was called. . I have another Canon printer that uses completely different software that is slightly better, but why doesn't Canon make a default program for all of their printers? It looks like it was created by hardware engineers with no regard for how the user would use it. I prefer to use the software that comes with the machine as it has access to all the features. It's like trying to use the universal remote, it's fine for start/stop/pause but you need the manufacturer's remote to get into the settings menu. Now I'm just typing from other programs and may be missing cool features, but I couldn't use this program again. I didn't deduct a single star as I bought this printer for the quality of the prints and it's definitely 5 stars.
