Scares squirrels off my bird feeder

I saw a picture of a slinky on a bird feeder pole to scare away squirrels so I thought I'd give it a try: you can't climb the pole to eat all the seeds currently! They emptied my feeder EVERY DAY leaving nothing for the birds and bird seed is too expensive! No problem, the squirrels are defeated!
