The plastic coating covers all of the steel shank
The steel appears to be a hot dipped galvanized coating. The steel itself has a matted plastic coating that covers all of the steel except the threads. I was looking for all of the steel to be covered to avoid scratches etc. so these fit the bill. Putting the hook into a 2x6 required a pilot hole since the wood was dry and hard, this was expected. In short the hood works as expected.
