After having my new HP with DisplayPort out for about 4 months, my adapter finally gave me a hard time. I had problems connecting to external monitors and projectors on a daily basis. I gave up and bought this. Everything I connected connected instantly with no prior effort to view an external device. It's hard to see how there could be such problems with something that's basically just a cable, but somehow HP managed to mess it up. This is a great replacement. Be careful when ordering as it comes in many different configurations and remember that DisplayPort supports both video and audio.
