Review on 🚴 Topeak Modula Cage EX Adjustable Water Bottle Cage with Modified Shape for Bicycles by Joshua Garris

Plastic cage not very strong

I have three of these cages now. First I ordered two cages. One came in a broken box. The top part that prevents the bottle from falling out of the cage was broken off. I applied and was quickly dealt with when a replacement cage was sent to me. The seller has been great so far. The two cages in use (the third was broken upon delivery) are mounted on my wife's bike handlebars and on my bike with Cagemount ToPeak. We had these cages and mounts for about a month. One day, about a week ago, my wife pulled over on her hybrid bike. The cage contained a full 24-ounce bottle of polar water. The bottom of the cage cracked and the bottle flew into the air. Had it not been for my wife's quick response, the bottle would have been thrown under many cars passing alongside us. She was lucky enough to catch the bottle without falling into the cork herself and without breaking it. We were now miles from home with two full bottles of water and just a cage on my bike. We have since replaced this cage with a normal aluminum cage. While the aluminum cage works well with standard bottles, it won't fit 16.9-ounce water bottles on a short trip. The construction of the ToPeak Adjustable Modula Cage EX seems solid. The materials appear brittle and cannot withstand any impact. I would only recommend them for on-road riding and smooth surfaces.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks
