Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Enhanced Performance Vantec UGT-ST622 PCIe Host Card with 2 Channels and 4 Ports for SATA 6Gbps Connectivity by Brady Shayotovich

Totally messed up graphics output

I bought this card for an external eSATA connection to use with a 4 drive NAS enclosure. Since I thought that Windows would probably install the appropriate driver and that I could install the driver from the CD later, I went ahead and installed the card. After booting into my operating system (Win10) I encountered insanely jumbled graphics on my monitor. Correctly assuming the card was faulty, I turned off the power, removed the card, and rebooted. Of course no graphics problems after the restart. I then go to the Vantec website to see if a newer driver is available as the documentation only states that the OS is Win8.1. There is a Win10 driver on the website but installing it didn't change anything. I still have this weird split screen graphics goulash when I boot up. The left half of the screen looks fine, but the right half is an odd mix of the enlarged upper left quadrant and what I see on the left side of the screen (the "normal" half), plus a lot more. bad pixelation. I even tried installing the card in the x16 slot as my build doesn't use the graphics card. no bone. I've done my best to track down driver and hardware conflicts, I've searched the internet for others reporting the same problem but found nothing. Even other 1 star reviews here mention nothing of the sort. The sad part is that since I've waited weeks to install and try this thing, I'm now out of the return window for this thing, so it's basically useless now. If anyone is reading this and would like to suggest something I may have done wrong, or better yet, has a solid solution to this problem, I'll listen carefully. Otherwise I'm sticking with this paperweight and I'm glad it only cost me $30.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
