The IDEA of this fan is great, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Solid fan, heavy. A nice soft piece of styrofoam on top of the fan where the sash will sit (IF YOU CAN GET A FAN THAT STAYS ON TOP). Invoice. However, Styrofoam blocks, which are intended to fill gaps on both sides of the vent to ensure the necessary airtightness for windows of different widths, are not suitable for children's building blocks that do not hold securely in the window and have no way (sticky monkey or Velcro). to hold them together, forcing anyone attempting to install a window with them to have at least 8 hands - in addition to a patient spouse or partner - to hold them in place when the window is in the upper "groove" on the fan is lowered. Blocks fall, roll, don't stay in line or in contact with the fan. So far, ours is sitting in a heap (in a month and $100) on the office floor. My husband bought this fan (no points for this solution) relying on the good reputation of being a Vornado fan. This fan and its lame "blocks" are just disappointing. I can try to find the box and send it back, but I'm afraid our time is up, the refund has expired. I suppose if you had a window that was exactly the width of the fan and didn't need blocks to reinforce the fan or fill the space on either side you would be reasonably happy. But there aren't any clear guidelines explaining the controls - temperatures aren't measured from low to high, but rather 1, 2, 3, 4, and who knows if 1 is high or low. It also has temperature control, but I couldn't figure it out. I took the time to google for an explanation of how to use the temperature controller, but had a feeling that the WORDS in INSTRUCTIONS/USER MANUAL form would have come with a $100+ device, not just one Sketch with lines identifying an infrared panel. which can only be seen when the fan is on.
