Does 2 out of 3 things I expected

The key seems a bit cheaper than the original keys and the unlock button has 2 clicks when you press it instead of 1 click, as it should be. However, I expected it to work once programmed. To program the key you have to put it in the ignition and turn the ignition to the ON (do not start) position, which means you need metal. The key blade is physically cut to fit existing keys. This means that the key can no longer be returned. That was step 1. Done. Step 2 was to find the correct programming procedure as there was no programming guide included with the key. I found several different options online and read the comments carefully to determine which is the most accurate. I also found instructions in my car's owner's manual, although they were a little vague on what to expect from the procedure. Following the instructions, my key started the engine. Hooray! Step 3 was to test the buttons to see if they would lock/unlock the doors. nope Nothing. So I went through the process again. Nothing has changed. I changed the batteries for one of my keys. Nothing has changed. I found another procedure that claimed to have programmed the key to lock/unlock the doors. The vehicle responded exactly as described in the procedure, but the key still did not lock/unlock the doors. Thus, the key mechanically enters the keyhole and rotates the door lock cylinder for locking/unlocking. The ignition turns on and the RFID chip is recognized to start the engine, but the transmitter/buttons to remotely lock/unlock the doors (and arm/disarm the alarm) do not work. As I expected all these things, I do not recommend this product. Why 2 stars instead of 1? I understand that keys sold by dealers don't always work either, so I can't offer a better approach than going for a DIY solution like this OR paying Ford big bucks to make sure they give you working keys give.

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
