Peace of mind keep your valves pointing up

Slime hoses are much, much better than regular hoses if you're prone to flat feet. Before that I opened the tube every 4 weeks, now I change the tubes about once a year. But - you must know how to use them. They require more technology than conventional cameras. 1) You must store the bike with both valves facing up. That means the slime shouldn't slide down the valve tube to the hole. This will clog it up forever and you will be frustrated. The best angle is 45 degrees; If you point it straight up when the wheel is turned so that the valve is pointing straight down, the goo can fill the valve from the bottom up and still clog it. 2) You must ride your bike reasonably regularly. If you don't do this, the first time you ride your bike after prolonged storage (a week or more), the slime barrier in the old tube holes can dry out and thin until it starts to leak. Fill the tube and then drive a few small circles around the house. You can be thrown out, because an old hole bursts. Cycling causes the wheels to spin and redistributes the slime, so it's ok, just pump up the tire again and the slime will fill it up again now that it's already spread all over the tube. Before a big trip, double check on site. 3) You must clean the valve before bleeding. There may be little bubbles of mucus in there, so I squeeze the valve to release some air in one direction, and then pump it out the other way. I often have to break a thin slime seal to start pumping. If you have a bad pump or hand pump, you need to replace it with a better pump. 4) Mucous wounds are like real wounds: they want to stop the bleeding. The moment you hear the popping and splashing, get off the bike to depressurize the tires, locate and plug the hole to give the slime time to fill it up before you get all the air in it to lose. If you're fast it seals in like platelets before you lose too much air and you can just jump back in and keep going. All in all, however, the Slime pipes are really great. I rode my bike through some pink spikes that some idiot had shaved right onto the bike path, they all popped out, mine filled up on its own.
