Review on ๐Ÿพ KOUSI Small Animal Pen: Indoor Plastic Fence for Large Dogs, Rabbits, and Small Pets - Play Yard and Pen for Secure Indoor Play by Tammy Sutton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY!

I'm giving 5 stars for now because it seems like a great product for my purposes so far. However, this will NOT be the right choice for everyone and I have some concerns about this for my own use. I will explain. I have ordered 2 of these. (They can be stacked together to increase length, but they cannot be stacked on top of each other to increase height with the connectors provided.) I use them to create an exercise pad for my two rabbits. The rabbits are both fully grown and weigh exactly 4 pounds each. Each playpen contained 12 panels, 24 connectors, and a small mallet. Everything was in great condition, nothing was damaged upon delivery. The panels themselves have a "wire" frame around which plastic is wrapped to form the panel. I say "wire" because it's not metal, it's a heavier plastic, and that plastic bends when pressure is applied. I have no doubt that the frame will break under heavy pressure. The plastic that makes up the panel itself is very flexible and is clear or slightly translucent. This reminds me a lot of the heavy page protectors you can buy at office supply stores. It absolutely flexes if you put any pressure on it, and I believe that with enough pressure (or claws) it can permanently bend, break, or snap. Thankfully, my rabbits don't typically lean against surfaces, so none of that is a problem for me. The panels themselves are very thin, less than 1/4 inch wide. Reading the description and other reviews I had a hard time figuring out the size of each panel, which is extremely important to me as I am working with a very limited area of unusual shape. Measured around the edges where the frame is thickest, each panel I received measures 19 7/8" x 27". 3/4 inch. However, because the frame appears to be plastic, it curves down a bit in the middle of each side, bringing the average closer to 19 1/2" x 27 1/2". It's not a big difference. , and may not matter to you. What's more important and can make a difference is that the connectors add a 3/8 inch gap between the two panels at the top and bottom, but when the frame drops down the middle, that gap is closer in the middle at 5/8-inch . This can be very important for those using this with small animals that may escape through such a gap or chew on the gap. This can also be a problem if you have other pets outside the enclosure who might try to stick their paws, tongues, etc. through the gap. Just something to think about. When the grip is assembled into a solid shape (like a closed square, etc.) it becomes quite strong and quite difficult to knock over, but will slip on a hard floor. The handle is very easy to assemble, the plates just slide off. into the sockets. DO NOT press the connectors hard when assembling or I'm pretty sure the panel frame will break. I suspect that's why there's a hammer included in the kit - just in case you need to gently tap the connectors a few times to seat them properly. However, I didn't have to do this. Everything is easy to attach and holds securely. And it's nice because the connectors slide off just as easily to separate the panels. It's perfect for taking apart the pen for cleaning, travel or reconfiguration. The handle itself is lightweight, with each panel weighing just 12 1/2 ounces. (So the entire handle of 12 plates, 24 connectors, and a hammer weighs just under 10 pounds.) As with other problems I've seen, this playpen has no floor or top cover. Also, it can be made into any shape as long as the shape uses 90 degree angles (right). So no circles or diagonal lines. This will likely include a puppy, very small dog, or kitten. I believe it depends on your pet's strength and activity level. If you have a small older dog who is good with boundaries, or a litter of very young kittens or puppies, that's fine. If you have a 4 month old lab puppy who is strong enough and is always jumping on things and trying to run away, this will NOT work. And if you're using it with larger small pets (rabbits, chinchillas, guinea pigs, maybe rats or ferrets) I would definitely use it under close supervision until you know how your pet is going to behave around here and whether they're chewing or trying will flee . I would NOT recommend this for very small pets (mice, hamsters, gerbils etc) as I don't think this would hold a pet of this size. First I use it to hold two rabbits, one of which is a big chewer. This hasn't been a problem so far as I've given him lots of chew toys and he seems to prefer them to anything else. However, if he switches his chewing to the pen, I highly doubt it will last long. Second, although I use it for rabbits, I also have two adult cats that weigh between 10 and 15 pounds. everyone. They've been with these bunnies for years and they all get along really well, but the cats love watching the bunnies while they're gone. So far, cats have been content to look through transparent panes. My concern is that if one of them decides to stand on their hind legs and lean on the paddock, the frame of the plate could break. If I run into any problems with any of these things, I'll update my review. I hope this review is helpful. I've also included some photos to show the construction of the pen/panel.
