, Recently bought a new 4K Smart TV. The fun part happened when my first potential buyer of my old Smart TV stopped by. The old TV needed a software update. "I've never used smart features and prefer ROKU," was my response, not being ready for a demo. It is true. With a surround sound system that supports HDMI pass-through/routing, I prefer to keep my smarts away from the TV. When I read reviews of new 4K TVs before I bought them, I found that many of the performance issues I've seen on my siblings' TVs (Sony with Android OS) that require regular restarts are related to the OS and apps. Additionally, others were concerned about viewer monitoring via a Google-based operating system. For me personally, it's less about voice control and motion control and more about the three smart apps that I actually use. Netflix, Revane and Plex. (I also have DirectTV). so another ROKU was part of the plan. When setting up a new TV, I ignored the Google account initialization prompts and switched to manual control. The next day I bought a new 4K Roku. It works just as well as the previous ROKU. Set up was easy with the wireless network. What surprised me the most was the improved usability of the app. For example, Netflix spotted a new 4K setting and asked me if I'd like to upgrade my plan to 4K for a few bucks more a month. This may seem undesirable to some, but I've already planned it anyway. So it was very convenient to press yes. In any case, navigation is easy and the same for all ROKU. As for me, I kept the old remote (which works great) because it has hot buttons for Netflix and Revain (unlike the remote that came with the new device). ROKU offers an alternative operating system for smart features that I appreciate and find. Easier than using my TV's smart features. ROKU can be stripped down to the bare minimum and for me reduces the number of remotes needed and also makes things less complicated. For these reasons, ROKU could be a good choice for current Smart TV owners.
