Well I only got this hatchet for splitting small logs - when I say I've split firewood and other small firewood for kindling. My first impression when I unpacked it was that it was quite heavy for an axe. My first impression of the pen was a bit strange due to its design. My first encounter with the point of an ax showed it to be as blunt as any standard cheap pocket knife you could buy at Wal-Mart, leading me to believe that this hatchet might not be able to split even the tiniest tree branch. try sharpening the blade a bit. I spent 30 minutes sharpening my ax with WorkSharp. After 30 minutes I finally feel the blade, but it's definitely not sharp enough to cut paper or shave. The blade was of course not originally sharpened by the manufacturer or heavily machined with an uneven edge on the blade. I wonder what this ax can do. I took some small old (probably 10-15 year old) small oak logs that I have. He shared the magazine with the first hit. But it took three blows before the second log split him in two. The log was probably 10 inches in diameter, just for reference. I could read the reviews before buying this ax and find one that the maker cares a little bit more about.
