High quality plastic and metal. Soft for baby. Scissors are perfect for a newborn. They handle it gently and maneuver easily to reach the tiny nails without hurting the skin. Nippers are good for children's nails. They are rough and break easily, you don't have to worry about whether they will cut or not, they are very easy to use. In fact, I don't use any part of a toothbrush just because I don't really like them, because I don't like putting my fingers in their mouth because of germs. I also didn't use a nail file because the scissors worked so well I didn't have to file them. But I definitely think it's a quality product and I really needed a set that wouldn't fall apart. They seem very durable and will hopefully last longer than my old set.
