Review on Netac 500GB Portable SSD with Type C: High-Speed NVME SSD PCIE, USB 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps External Solid State Drive by Narendra Thapa

Very light but with good build and build quality. It feels like it's all metal, which means it gets REALLY hot. Make sure it's on a hard, flat surface; Avoid pillows and soft insulating fabrics. Comes with both USB-C cables and legacy USB-A cables. I needed both, as it turned out! Came formatted ExFAT; Compatible with Win/Mac out of the box. Reformatted to macOS Extended (Journaled) with no problems. Anyway, Time Machine recognized it as a suitable backup destination. Using BlackMagic Disk Speed Test for a quick benchmark, around 409/415 MB/s (R/W) was consistently achieved. I've never seen the speed drop below 400MB/s. This is far from the advertised performance BUT keep in mind that I'm connecting to a 2012 MacBook Pro with USB 3.0 (5Gbps) ports. They have a theoretical bandwidth limit of 625 MB/s, however. I doubt they will ever make it. Just enjoying 400MB/s RW from an external drive plugged into an 8 year old Mac! This has been confirmed when transferring files/folders in the real world and 2GB went by in a matter of seconds. Good. The next test is to connect it to an even older 2011 Mac Mini. that features a CalDigit TS3 Plus docking station and more bandwidth via a Thunderbolt port (10Gbps or 1250MB/s). I connect to a dedicated USB-C 3.2 10Gbps port on the TS3 Plus with a USB-C cable. Here I see about 600/630 MB/s R/W. Still not quite the advertised speeds BUT... this is a 9 year old Mac. I'm glad the underlying architecture can even support those speeds and how fast this little drive is. No negative points to report. That's 500GB of very fast portable storage.
