I've only used this to find buried valves and it's great! It took me a second to figure out the sounds and best practices, but I was able to pinpoint valve positions to within 5 inches before digging the hole. With valves, it's best to run the receiver at full frequency, run it down a known wire to see how the frequency sounds, and then not worry about tracing the wires if the range is small is. Just swipe the courtyard until you get a very loud response. It will be louder than walking on a wire. At full frequency you can narrow it down to a radius of about 2 feet. Now slowly lower the setting on the probe and swipe the spot to further narrow it down depending on the noise. a pin showing a spot to dig within 5 inches of the valve as the sounds become too quiet when the settings are low. You aim it on low settings by holding the wand vertically over your hotspot. It stays stable above 10 if you are directly above it, if you go too far it will bounce to 10 or fall down. If it stays at 10 and you move it from 5 to 8 inches, lower the staff setting a little more.
