I needed mesh for my chicken coop door to keep sand out and acrylic seems like the best choice both aesthetically and in terms of durability. My local hardware store charges the same price for a sheet so it's very good value as you get 3 sheets. For drilling I support the bottom with a 2x4 so there is minimal stress when drilling into acrylic. That gives him a nice clean hole. I pre-drilled mine before attaching it to the bottom of the wire door. So far everything is working great and I have to wipe down a mop once or twice a week. Sand is no longer thrown away.
