I've had lightbulbs long enough to know they won't blow out right away and I've had kids "use" matching lava lamps long enough to know what it is is is pretty impressive. Lava lamps sometimes hang from tables and the like. (When they are off, children (i) are careful with electricity and (ii) sleep with the lamps on most of the time anyway) and the lamps have endured these indignities. They're on a good 10 hours a day (one in each child's room, of course - we mostly use lava lamps as night lights (so my older friend doesn't admit he's scared of the dark)). But even if they had already blown, they would still be a good deal because when you factor in the cost of these things in the store (as well as the time, money, and difficulty in finding them (gas, lost time off, etc.) ) They should have burned out VERY often to be a bad deal. In fact, based on my past usage, I think anyone who has these bulbs blowing out regularly has an electrical problem, not a bulb problem.
