Connected to my HP Pavilion laptop, this device does exactly what I wanted it to do: output VGA to the VGA-to-Composite/S-Video I am using Converter. for years and so on to my defiantly non-HDMI TV. And I needed audio output: Pavilion disables its own headphone output (as well as its own speakers) when an HDMI cable is plugged in. Roku 3 but the screen froze during activation (which never completed) even when I used a 2.1A 5V USB charger to power the device. Maybe that particular Roku 3 was defective. Please note that most of the advertising emphasizes that it needs to be connected to a computer and not a TV. And it works really well with a computer.
