So let me preface this with a disclaimer: I'm a professional technician used to using a laptop with a Data Link Adapter (DLA) to connect to vehicles and machines for diagnostic, establish troubleshooting and testing options. I really don't like the idea of adding another portable standalone product to my tool arsenal as I already have a laptop that can do more than standalone tablets. In this case, my laptop wouldn't have done more without the dealer-level software, which isn't available to non-dealers (thanks GM and AC Delco), so I bought the Autel MP808K after some pretty cursory homework. My private truck had an aftercare malfunction that required a bi-directional function to clear an upcoming speed limit due to an 'exhaust fluid maintenance' alert that was supposed to turn on 3 separate heaters on the detergent tank and test it as passes before issuing an error code and reducing my speed doesn't end up at 4mph because it's emissions related. Easy. Fix the problem and the error codes will go away. Except in this case, turning the heaters on and off to test troubleshooting requires you to be able to actually test the function with the command. Models are bidirectional and non-snap on. We've gone the Snappy route before, and to get a comparable diagnostic tablet from them it's double the price of a used one on eBay. I literally picked the MP808K because it was cheap, had a $40 discount coupon, and (most importantly) specifically demonstrated that it could cycle through functions via an on-screen control module. If you are in the market and looking at this tablet, buy it. You're not watching this for fun. You have a problem and think a diagnostic tablet will help solve the problem. If the price doesn't put you off, you already know you get what you pay for. This is very handy if you know how to use Windows or an Android based tablet. It did EXACTLY what I needed with no instructions other than playing around for about 5 minutes to get a feel for the system. It won't give you a happy ending, but it will make your day better when you open the box, register your tablet, connect to your car and delete that pesky code in just 3 minutes. Solve the problem, clear the codes, perform the required tests, perform a stationary regeneration to clear the system and check for repairs, go about your business without taking your car to a dealer, who can't even tell you what day he can fix the released service action. Autel was also fairly quick to respond to my initial email asking if this model would do what I needed. I had already bought it when they replied but they answered me. Definitely recommend the product. And for those inclined to comment, yes I know I can just remove dpf and be done with it. Not in this case. Should be able to fix that stupid truck you buy. No need to make illegal modifications or spend $2,000 for these modifications. I have no problems with the aftertreatment system. I have an issue with a manufacturer who claims to offer access to software that is bought and paid for, but limits the options to everyone but their resellers.
