When I purchased this product there was a serious lack of information on how the various devices worked. At the time of publication, this item costs over $10 and there are many competitors in this price range. None of that matters. But you need information to make a decision. What you need is something like: MASTERCOOL - 134A Depressor Style Can Tap (85512) MasterCool is just under $20 at the time of publication. The functional difference is this: MasterCool actually has an adjustable "pusher" that only depresses the release valve in the can when you turn the MastercCool knob. So it works just like the old 'penetrating type' valves. Other less expensive competitors, like the item you read about here, have a stationary pusher that engages an internal valve when you try to insert/screw it into the can. HFC R134a will be everywhere (make sure you're wearing the right gloves) and you'll think you must be doing this wrong. But they don't - they just do it cheaply. Items that work this way don't have to be legal. You will do more damage releasing HFCs with this device than you/we ever did with leaky old generation cans.
